GrainFlow’s grain receival site at Sea Lake has been proud to partner Tyrrell College in 2011 NAB Schools First Program.
GrainFlow’s commercial manager, Andrew Gregor, said: “Through the partnership Tyrrell College has already won the regional and state categories on the 2011 NAB Schools First program and is in the running to win the National award which will be announced on Wednesday 23 November.”
“As the only secondary education facility in the Sea Lake district, Tyrrell College needed a partner that would help address issues such as disengagement, absenteeism and social connection by providing the students with practical, hands-on experience.
“GrainFlow was pleased to become involved and assist Tyrrell College to address these issues by giving the students the opportunity to gain agribusiness knowledge and skills.
“The partnership enabled the students to develop leadership and a sense of responsibility and, potentially to inspire them to, to become the next generation of agricultural leaders.
“GrainFlow is committed to engaging with the communities we live and work in and the partnership with Tyrrell College builds on this commitment,” Mr Gregor said.
The winner will receive $400,000 from NAB towards their school-community partnership.
NAB Schools First is a national awards program that recognises and rewards outstanding school-community partnerships. It brings together students, teachers, parents and community members to help young people grow. The program provides financial recognition of success in establishing effective school-community partnerships and financial support to build stronger school-community partnerships.
